NFL History NFL began in Canton, Ohio, September 17 1920 by a group of enterprising men. Originally known as the NFL American Professional Football Association (AFPA). American Professional Football Association later renamed as National Football League (NFL) in 1922 and became the favorite sport of America. Jim Thorpe, who was a professional player was the first president of the NFL and has helped increase the credibility and pouplarity for sport.Actually Pro Football began in 1892 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, when the former Yale star William "Pudge" ; Heffelfinger was paid a sum of $ 500 to play in a game for the Allegheny Athletic Association on 12 November 1892. Pro football was played mainly in small towns in Pennsylvania and was in much of Pennsylvania, a sport before it became popular, it started in the easte states and the Midwest as Ohio.Initial days with Pro Football issues, including the lack of rules, keeping the players in an orderly and professional recognition. Independents have won since rolled a 48-0 victory over St. Paul ideals. A week later, two league teams battled head to head for the first time. Dayton Triangles Panhandle beat Columbus, 14-0 in Triangle Park. The Akron Pro, with a 8-0-3 regular season record, were crowned champion champion.Only first two original franchises still exist today APFA. Decatur Staley moved to Chicago and that their names have been changed in the Chicago Bears franchise.
